How to Stay Safe in 40-Degree Celsius Summer Heat



Summer can be fun with vacations, mangoes, and long days, but when the temperature hits 40°C (104°F), it becomes important to take care of your health. Extreme heat can lead to dehydration, heatstroke, and other serious issues if you’re not careful. So here are some simple and effective tips to stay safe and cool during intense summer heat.


1. Stay Hydrated


One of the most important things to do during hot weather is to drink plenty of water. Your body loses more fluids through sweat in summer, so keep a water bottle with you at all times. Drink water even if you're not feeling thirsty. You can also have fresh juices, coconut water, or lemon water to stay refreshed. Avoid sugary drinks, alcohol, and too much caffeine as they can cause dehydration.


 2. Wear Light and Comfortable Clothing


Choose clothes made from cotton or other breathable fabrics. Light-colored, loose-fitting clothes help your body stay cool and allow air to pass through. Avoid wearing dark clothes as they absorb more heat. A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and an umbrella can also help protect you from direct sun exposure.


3. Avoid Going Out in Peak Heat


Try to stay indoors during the hottest part of the day, usually between 12 PM and 4 PM. If you must go out, try to walk in the shade or carry an umbrella. Plan outdoor activities either early in the morning or after sunset.

 4. Use Cooling Methods at Home


Keep your home cool by using fans, coolers, or air conditioning if available. You can also keep the curtains closed during the day to block out heat. Taking cold showers or wiping your face and neck with a wet cloth can instantly cool you down. You can even soak your feet in cold water for quick relief.

5. Eat Light Meals


Avoid heavy, oily, and spicy foods during the summer. Instead, eat light and easily digestible meals. Include fruits like watermelon, cucumber, and oranges in your diet. These are not only refreshing but also keep you hydrated. Eating smaller meals more frequently can help you feel better than eating heavy meals all at once.


6. Know the Signs of Heatstroke


Heatstroke is a serious condition caused by too much exposure to high temperatures. Symptoms include high body temperature, headache, nausea, dizziness, dry skin, and confusion. If someone shows these signs, move them to a cooler place, offer water, and seek medical help immediately.
